picasa.google.com
Picasa is a photo sharing website owned by Google since 2004. Created by Lifescape in 2002, Picasa is an image viewer and organizer which is offered as freeware by Google. Picasa software manages digital images through including tools that make file sharing, labelling, editing, and organizing, a very simple process.

Features

Picasa is a terrific image organizer that supports tagging, facial recognition, file importing, and tracking features. Editing functions include colour enhancement, cropping, and red eye reduction which are easy to use features before creating slide shows, sharing photos, printing, and creating image timelines. Other editing features include the option for adding text, integrating with online printing services, formatting page layouts, and altering file sizes for printing and emailing. Early versions of Picasa overwrote original images, however newer versions keep the originals as well as edited versions of images. Advertisements are shown on free Picasa accounts and paid monthly subscription plans are available for those who want greater than 15GB, up to 30TB. Additional features include the opportunity to create screensavers, photo montages, and movies.

Since June 2006, Linux versions have been made available for most operating systems as free downloads. In 2012 Google announced they will no longer maintain Picasa on the Linux operating system. The latest version of Picasa on Linux can be uploaded using alternative programs such as Digikam or Shotwell, or through using Wine emulator and installing Picasa for Windows. A beta version of Picasa for Mac was released by Google in 2009. For OS X 10.4 or later versions, uploading tools are available to Picasa Web Albums.

Picasa Web Albums
