Picasa is a photo sharing website owned by Google
since 2004. Created by Lifescape in 2002, Picasa is an image viewer and
organizer which is offered as freeware by Google. Picasa software manages digital images through including tools that make file sharing, labelling,
editing, and organizing, a very simple process.

Picasa is a terrific image organizer that supports
tagging, facial recognition, file importing, and tracking features. Editing
functions include colour enhancement, cropping, and red eye reduction which are
easy to use features before creating slide shows, sharing photos, printing, and
creating image timelines. Other editing features include the option for adding
text, integrating with online printing services, formatting page layouts, and
altering file sizes for printing and emailing. Early versions of Picasa
overwrote original images, however newer versions keep the originals as well as
edited versions of images. Advertisements are shown on free Picasa accounts and
paid monthly subscription plans are available for those who want greater than
15GB, up to 30TB. Additional features include the opportunity to create
screensavers, photo montages, and movies.
Versions
Picasa 3.9, released June 2014 is the latest version
available which supports Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Since June 2006, Linux
versions have been made available for most operating systems as free downloads.
In 2012 Google announced they will no longer maintain Picasa on the Linux
operating system. The latest version of Picasa on Linux can be uploaded using
alternative programs such as Digikam or Shotwell, or through using Wine
emulator and installing Picasa for Windows. A beta version of Picasa for Mac
was released by Google in 2009. For OS X 10.4 or later versions, uploading
tools are available to Picasa Web Albums.

Picasa Web Albums (PWA) is an image sharing and
hosting web service in which users with a Google account are able to store and
share images with 15GB of free storage. Once uploaded and stored, images may
then be shared with Google Drive and Gmail. Integrated into Google+ in 2013,
users accessing their Picasa Albums are now automatically redirected to Google+
